Latest Message from the School

Dear Saint Raphael Families,

As we continue to navigate these turbulent and uncharted waters, we want to thank you for your patience and support. This is new for all of us and we understand the sometimes overwhelming sense of fear, anxiety, and loneliness many are feeling. A number of our teachers are parents of school-age children and are experiencing what you are experiencing. They continue to share their and your concerns with us. Yesterday, we met with all of our teachers by grade level via “Zoom” video conferencing, a first for many of us. We had lots of great discussions. The overwhelming takeaway from those meetings was the incredible sense of pride in our teachers and staff for getting up and running so quickly in the face of so much uncertainty. The other takeaway is that we must all be reflective and adaptive in our efforts to meet the educational, emotional, and spiritual needs of our children and families.

As a result of those conversations and your input we have decided the following:

  • A  more centralized location for information found on this page

  • Shared checklists will be created for grade levels and Specials so that students, parents, and teachers can better get a handle on the workload and alleviate the emails.

  • Teachers have been instructed to be understanding and flexible when it comes to deadlines and due dates. Students and parents just need to ask.

  • Live teacher check-ins via Zoom and Google Hangouts for live instruction & Q &A

    • Taped lessons are also being shared for flexibility

  • If you need additional devices at your house, please contact Mr. Blayney

  • Today marks the end of the third quarter. Grade books will remain open until midweek or longer and the plan is to generate report cards on Friday or later if necessary. We are not certain yet as to how we will get report cards to you, but will explore all digital forms of delivery first. Grades are subject to review until the end of the school year.

  • We will reassess everything for the start of the fourth quarter including reducing student work loads and implementing a midweek moratorium on all work to give everyone a break.

  • Finally, and on a lighter note, we will not be enforcing our dress code until further notice.

May God continue to guide, protect, and bless us all.

Mr. Ken Mitskavich
